Ideas On What To Do Over Spring Break

Ideas On What To Do Over Spring Break

Hi guys! Today I'm going to talk about ideas on what you can do to make your spring break more exciting.

Sometimes spring break can get boring. All you feel like doing is laying around and watching tv while stuffing your face with food. It doesn't have to be boring though, you can do some pretty fun things. The first suggestion I have is do something crafty. So go to a Michael's or a Hobby Lobby and buy something you can work on. I went to Hobby Lobby and I bought some fabric to recover some of my throw pillows in. It's a good way to be productive while doing something fun.

The next thing is to do something active. I plan on biking, going on walks, and doing some yoga. Spring break is a good time to start being active and eating healthy because you don't have to worry about school getting in the way of it. It's a good time to figure out what kind of exercising you like. You can also try things like making smoothies for a meal or using more fresh foods.

My last idea is invite some friends over. Maybe you all could go somewhere like Six Flags or a beach. You could have fun at home to. You can do things like find fun challenges online or have makeovers. They can also help encourage you to work out and be more active.

That's all for ideas on what you can do over spring break. I hope you try at least one of these!

Hobbies Update

Hi guys! So on January 10th I wrote a blog about the hobbies that I wanted to try. They were soap making, candle making, diy’s, and YouTube. So far, I’ve tried soap making and YouTube.

We bought supplies from Hobby Lobby for soap making. I had a lot of fun making soaps. Since then I’ve run out of soap base so the next time we’re there I’ll have to get more. I made a lot of soap and they turned out pretty cute and I had a lot of fun doing it. I liked mixing different colors and different scents. So far i’ve made about 10 soaps.

For YouTube I haven’t actually posted anything yet but I’ve filmed a little with one of my friends. We plan on actually filming, editing, and posting something over spring break. Our channel name is A&KBeauty. We’re probably going to film a work out expectations vs reality video. I am really excited about starting a channel and I will probably do another whole blog on it once i set it up. Ashley and I have already made an email and an Instagram for our channel. We haven't posted anything on it yet but if you want to follow it for when we do post it’s a.kbeauty.

I want to try candle making and diy’s but I haven't bought the supplies for it  yet. I have some really fun ideas that I think will be great. I might even film a diy video and put it on YouTube. Technically candle making and soap making are both diy’s so I could do a video on those too. I also want to try making bath bombs. I might start an easy shop with my mom and if I do I’ll blog about it.

So thats my hobbies update! I hope to start a couple of other things soon! I’m extremely excited for my YouTube channel.

Track & Field

Hi guys! Today I am going to write about track & field.

Track & field practice started on Monday after school. A couple of my friends convinced me to sign up for track. Last week I went to the meeting where you sign up for track & field and we bought all of our gear. On Monday I went down to the field locker rooms and we had a meeting. Then after the coaches finished talking to us we ran an 800 which is half a mile and then we started our warm ups and stretches. After that we sprinted four 100's and jogged two 200's. Track practice ends at 4 and field practice ends at 5 so after track I went to field. We practiced shot put and discus.

On Tuesday after track the pole vaulting coach pulled me to the side and asked me if I was interested in doing it. We talked about it a little and I have a choice between throwing for field, pole vaulting for field, or sprinting for track. I haven't had a chance to try pole vaulting yet but I think the coach will be there on Monday. For the rest of the week I ran and threw.

My legs were extremely sore for the first 4 days but since then I've adjusted pretty well. So far track & field has been really fun. I've met a lot of new people in track & field. I also love being outside as opposed to an indoor sport like volleyball in the fall.

I'm having a lot of fun in track & field and I'm glad I joined it.

Being Vegetarian

Being Vegetarian

Hi guys! Today I'm going to write about why I chose to be a vegetarian, how I'm doing it, and what research I'm going to do/I have done about it.

I chose to be a healthy vegetarian because I want to be healthy, live a longer life, and be in good shape. You can live like this and eat meat but I find that the way I was eating meat, covered in things like sauces and in larger portions wasn't that healthy. So being a healthy vegetarian, I won't eat meat or anything that comes out of a bag or box like chips and candy bars, at least not very often.

With being vegetarian I have to make sure I'm getting things like calcium, vitamin d, vitamin b12, and iron. Eventually I'm going to make the meals that I eat more fresh foods because the more you cook something the more nutrients you loose. On the nutrition facts I want the sugar content to be low and have little to no saturated fats just unsaturated ones. When you're a vegetarian you still want to get the correct amount of calories just in a healthy way.

The food that I think I'm going to have the most trouble giving up is bacon. I think I'll also miss chicken wings and fried chicken. I don't really think I'll have to much of a problem giving these things up though. I can still eat things like fish and crab.

Overall I think being a vegetarian is going to be challenging at times but I think that I will stick with it.

If I Stay Book Review

If I Stay Book Review

Hi guys! Today I'm going to write a book review on If I Stay by Gayle Forman. I got this book for Christmas and I started it between early and middle February. SPOILER ALERT!

This book starts out with a cute family of four on a snow day. The main character, Mia, is the oldest child and she has a little brother named Teddy. She also has a boyfriend in a band called Shooting Star named Adam. The snow is only about an inch of slush so they decide to go run a few errands. They are in the car on the high way and Mia has her eyes closed listening to music. All of a sudden there is a large crash when a truck ran into the side of their car. Mia seems unhurt on the side of the road so she walks to her car. The car is completely destroyed. She's walking over when she steps on something. She looks down and thinks it's a mushroom at first but when she looks around she realizes that it's pieces of her fathers brain. She also sees her mother who she can tell is dead as well. She can't find her little brother Teddy, but when she turns around she sees something odd. Laying on the side of the road is Mia's body she looks terribly beat up and her leg bone is sticking out of her skin. She realized she wasn't in her body and at first thinks she's dead.

Ambulances arrive at the scene and confirm her parents are dead. They come over to Mia and realize she has a very low pulse. They quickly get her hooked up to some things and took her in a helicopter to a big hospital. She went with her body but still never found Teddy. She was in the hospital for a day with her grandparents and other relatives, when her best friend Kim finds out what happened. Kim went to go tell Adam and they went to the hospital together. The nurses wouldn't let them in so they tried to break in. One of the nurses was best friends with Mia's parents. She got Adam and Kim into see Mia. Mia realized Teddy was dead and she wanted to die because she had no family. After Kim left the hospital bed Adam came in. Adam told Mia's unconscious body that he wanted her to stay more than anything. He also said that even if her real family is dead she still had unrelated family that would love her. In that moment of seeing her boyfriend cry by her bed Mia decided to stay. When she did she went back into her body. Suddenly she felt all the pain from the accident that she couldn't before when she wasn't in her body. Using all of the energy she had she squeezed Adams hand. The book ends with Adam looking up and saying "Mia?".

This book was extremely sad and not at all what I thought it was going to be like. I really liked it and I think it's my favorite book at the moment. I really want to read the second book called Where She Went. I think this is a great book for anyone who want a really good book that wouldn't take to much time to read. I would give this book an 9.8 out of 10.

I loved reading this book and I'm really looking forward to reading the second.

Cruelty Free Makeup Brands

Cruelty Free Makeup Brands

Hi guys. Today I'm writing about makeup brands that are cruelty free and the ones you should stay away from.

There are some some makeup brands that do extremely cruel animal testing. Some of the ones that don't are Hourglass, Too Faced,Urban Decay, Tarte, Nars, OCC, Illamasqua, The Balm, Bite Beauty, Bare Minerals, Buxom, CoverFX, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Josie Maran, Becca, Cargo, It Cosmetics, Korres, ELF, Hard Candy, Milani, NYX, Physicians Formula, Sonia Kashuk, Wet n Wild, Jordana, Flower, Jane, Pixi, Sugar Pill, Smashbox, Colour Pop, BH Cosmetics, and Makeup Geek. These are some of the better known companies that don't test products on animals.

Some brands you should stay away from are Revlon, Estèe Lauder, Mary Kay, Avon, Nuetrogena, and Maybelline. These brands all test some of their products on animals. These brands test the effects of ingesting different products. They use animals and see what effects it has on them. They keep retesting this until the animals don't die from it. There are many online campaigns against testing products on animals.

Most organic and natural brands do not test products on animals. If you have some products from a brand that is not cruelty free you should still keep them and use them up just don't repurchase anything from that brand. Try and stick to the brands that are cruelty free. There are many more brands that are cruelty free than that aren't cruelty free but you should still do an online check to make sure what you're buying is safe.

So those are brands to stay away from and brands to shop at and reasons why. Animal testing is a bad thing and when we buy things from these companies we encourage them to keep doing it.

Healthy Super Bowl Sunday Snacks

This super bowl I decided to keep everything I ate healthy. As a beverage I only drank things like smoothies and water. As food I chose things like fruits.

I'll start out by talking about the beverages I drank. At Food Lion I bought 2 bags of assorted frozen fruits. The first one I got is called the green mix. In it is frozen spinach, apples, mangos, bananas, and pineapples. The second one I got is called the pink mix. In this one is frozen bananas and strawberries. All you have to do to make these is, blend about 6 ice cubes, 10 of the frozen fruits, and about 1/2 cup of water. Each package of frozen fruit makes about 4-8 smoothies depending on how much ingredients you used. On the label it says that the serving size is 3/4 cup. It has 0 saturated and trans fat. It contains 12 grams of sugar. It has 80 calories per serving. 40% vitamin A is the top nutrient. I also made sure I drank water.

The first smoothie I decided to make was the green smoothie. Since it was green and had spinach in it my brothers wouldn't try it. When I finally got them to try it they didn't have a bad reaction they thought it was ok. My dad liked it. I really liked it, I thought it wasn't to cold and I could barely taste the spinach was over the other fruits.

For food the frozen fruits in the smoothie package is great to eat too. The fruit taste good frozen. It has all of the same nutrition facts that the smoothie has. Another healthy snack I like to eat is apples with a little peanut butter spread on them. Peanut butter is healthy as long as you don't use to much. An Apple has 130 calories, the serving size being 1 apple. It has 0 saturated and trans fat. It has 25 grams of sugar. The top nutrient is 8% vitamin C. The serving size for peanut butter is 1/2 cup and the amount of calories is 190. It has 6 grams of saturated fat and 0 grams of trans fat. It contains 16 grams of sugar. The top nutrient in peanut butter is 10% calcium.

On Super Bowl Sunday a rough number of 28,000,000 pizzas are ordered. 1.25 billion chicken wings are ordered. Restaurants sell quadruple the amount of things like pizzas, wings, and chips, while selling even less smoothies and salads then normal. Over 2 billion liters of soda are bought and consumed on Super Bowl Sunday. It's almost as if super bowl Sunday is a cheat day for everyone. Those giant numbers are one of the reasons we should be eating healthy on Super Bowl Sunday and on a regular basis.

So that concludes my healthy Super Bowl snacks, and some reasons why everyone else should be eating healthy, and not just on super bowl Sunday.
